Horizons inside classical lumps.

چکیده
We investigate the possibility of having horizons inside various classical field configurations. Using the implicit function theorem, we show that models satisfying a certain set of criteria allow for (at least) small horizons within extended matter fields. Gauge and global monopoles and Skyrmions satisfy these criteria. Q-balls and Boson stars are examples which do not and can be shown not to allow for horizons. In examples that do allow for horizons, we show how standard ‘no hair’ arguments are avoided. ⋆ This work was supported in part by NSF grant NSF-THY-8714-684-A01

When the classical & quantum mechanical considerations hint to a single point; a microscopic particle in a one dimensional box with two infinite walls and a linear potential inside it
In this paper we have solved analytically the Schrödinger equation for a microscopic particle in a one-dimensional box with two infinite walls, which the potential function inside it, has a linear form. Based on the solutions of this special quantum mechanical system, we have shown that as the quantum number approaches infinity the expectation values of microscopic particle position and square ...
متن کاملBlack holes without boundaries
We discuss some of the drawbacks of using event horizons to define black holes and suggest ways in which black holes can be described without event horizons, using trapping horizons. We show that these trapping horizons give rise to thermodynamic behavior and possibly Hawking radiation too. This raises the issue of whether the event horizon or the trapping horizon should be seen as the true bou...
متن کاملTrucut needle biopsy in breast lumps.
THE clinical differentiation between benign and malignant breast lumps is fraught with danger. A small proportion of cases present with classical findings but in the majority it is essential to have a histological or cytological diagnosis before surgery is undertaken. Trucut needle biopsy (TCN) of solid tumours is now established as a useful means of obtaining representative biopsy material and...
متن کاملHorizons of stability in matrix Hamiltonians
Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians H 6= H possess the real (i.e., observable) spectra inside certain specific, “physical” domains of parameters D = D(H). In general, the determination of their “observability-horizon” boundaries ∂D is difficult. We list the pseudo-Hermitian real N by N matrix Hamiltonians for which the “prototype” horizons ∂D are defined by closed analytic formulae.
متن کاملHalf period theorem of binary black holes
Merging event horizons of the binary black holes will be investigated. Though recent development of the numerical study of the binary black hole coalescence has shown that their apparent horizons can orbit for many periods in the case of appropriate initial conditions, the apparent horizons only suggests the existence of an event horizon surrounding them. In the present article, we discuss how ...
